The Blank Plate: A Masthead That Names Nothing

The plate above this desk is blank, and the blankness confuses visitors until the rule is explained: the plate names no publication because this studio is not one. It issues no editions, files no reports and releases no software. What hangs beneath it is smaller and more exact — one written card about one fictional woman, kept by the studio that invented her.

The doctrine reaches the accounts as well. Production rests private in each maker’s account; the gallery shows only what a maker deliberately carried into the open. A studio that issued everything its tools produced into public view would soon publish carelessly, and carelessness is the one release this plate is determined never to make.

Even the prices refuse the update theatre: every job’s cost is printed before the job runs, failures refund themselves, and no claim is made here about versions, reach or riches. The work is the claim.

A blank plate, an exact card. The masthead names nothing so that the one name that matters — hers, on the card — is never revised away.
